Chapter 9 - Exile
Summary:
Ma was getting sick of living in Southie, where so many kids dying, so many funerals to go to. She wanted to "get the hell out", but there was no place else to go, and she had little money. She started working as a hairstylist to keep herself busy and make some extra money. Michael stayed away from Southie as much as possible too, he slept at friends houses away from Old Colony, Soon Ma was able to take the boys and Kathy and move to Colorado, which was in a trailer park that was also very poor. Michael stayed back at the apartment and waited for Johnie to come back. Soon after in August the law agencies arrested the towns group of "the bad guys", everyone except Whitey.
"Ma said she wanted nothing more than to get the hell out"(219), she was sick of all the murders and suicides and going to all the funerals.
"The people of South Boston have been had" (222), Whitey said Southie had no crime , but it really had more cocaine in it than any other city.
I thought the chapter was sad because so many people died. I was surprised that ma hated Southie so much after saying she liked it there for so long. "Ma said she wanted nothing more than to get the hell out"! She was sick of all the murders, suicides going on in the neighborhood.
"The people of South Boston have been had" that Whitey always said he kept South Boston free of drugs and murders all that time, but he really had all the drug dealers working for him there.

From Dominick-- I agree and disagree with you, It from your summary: But Michael was still in Old Colony South Boston, Also you talk about Michael go to his friend's house away from Old Colony is happened in Chapter 10: Justice. Because he was love to grow up to be there in South Boston. Your thought: is White always said he kept South Boston free of drugs and murders- Not True, He make South Boston people victim and sell to them for drugs and want murder them for give money to Whitey.

My opinion is different from that quote because I know there are something that ma wants to have these than she goes to the hell. She wants her children to be safe and want them to have a good future, got job, and be happy in the life. I am sure that she said that quote because she is stress and angry too much.
ReplyDeleteFrom Tanya: Kinda agree with you. Actually Ma suffer from all pain tha makes her nightmare. She don't want to hear that pain. They hated the police that happen to Ma experiment, that Ma try save her kids when the police hold the shotgun at her ma with Davey however Davey causes them in trouble. Ma don't want to have trouble and bad in danger place in Southie. So She want to them safe and move out of Southie. All people are silence because of Whitey Bulger. They dont see anything while they knew who murder or saw killer shooting in car outside. They dont want to snitch and scared.
